Agents fees – Important guidance from CAP re: ASA ruling

The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) issued guidance to letting agents and landlords on 10th September 2013, following the Advertising Standards Agency ruling against YourMove, in March.

UKALA have been working hard behind the scenes with CAP and other industry bodies including ARLA, RICS, TPO and the National Landlords Association (NLA) to try and ensure that this guidance is as transparent as possible. All UKALA members have been urged to read and comply with it before the compliance deadline on 1st November 2013

Caroline Kenny also issued the following statement:

“UKALA welcomes the release of the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) guidance today, which should provide more clarity to letting agents on how to comply with the Advertising Standards Agency’s (ASA) ruling on the issue in March this year.

“We have worked closely and consistently with the CAP and other industry colleagues since the ruling to ensure that any subsequent guidance is clear and unambiguous as possible for letting agents to adhere to. It is also encouraging to see that additional in-depth advice compliance will also be available through the CAP Copy Advice Team, if required.

“We encourage all letting agents to review their property listings across all media platforms before the 1st November compliance deadline in order to ensure they fall in line with the CAP’s guidance.”
