UKALA is a professional membership body run by a close-knit team that has considerable experience in residential lettings. The organisation is currently governed by four board members. As well as ensuring good governance, each board member has specific responsibilities.

Tim joined the UKALA board in 2011 and has been the chairman since 2016, overseeing the whole organisation.
He started a letting business in Norfolk in 2006 and is now the proprietor of a thriving small business.
He has been a member of the UKALA since the inception of his business. He is a landlord, Managing Director of his letting agency and director of a company holding apartment freeholds.
In the ten years prior to this he had worked in property development and had been a director of a holiday rentals business.
Before moving into the property world he worked world-wide for Philips Electronics including being commercial business manager of a £50M technology transfer project. He is a passionate supporter of UKALA.
Richard joined the UKALA board in 2011 with specific responsibility for operations and policy.
He has been a landlord with a mixed portfolio for the last twenty seven years and has twenty five years’ experience working within trade bodies on behalf of landlords and letting agents at local, national and international level.
From 2000 to 2004 Richard was the CEO of the National Federation of Residential landlords. He has also been a board member of the National Landlords Association, now NRLA, (2006-2018) and a director of MyDeposits (2009-2018). He was awarded the lifetime achievement award in the inaugural HMO awards in 2022.
Richard is an Honorary Vice President of the UIPI (International Union of Property Owners), based in Brussels, and a director of the National HMO Network.
Paul was a UKALA Director from 2011 to 2016 before rejoining the board in 2022 overseeing finance and risk.
He is passionate about property and qualified in 1993 as a Graduate Valuer of the ISVA (now merged with the RICS).
Paul started in estate agency in 1986 and, after being an area manager of three offices, opened his own firm in 1991. As well as Estate Agency and Lettings, he has also project-managed property developments from planning & building, through to their eventual sale or rental. He has been a UKALA member for over twenty years.
Paul currently runs a small bespoke lettings and property consultancy based in South West London, and enjoys sailing whenever work permits.
Kate brings a wealth of experience to the UKALA board.
Previously, Kate played pivotal roles at HFIS plc/My Deposits, where she excelled in business development, strategic partnerships with some of the UK’s leading letting agents, and digital transformation. Her expertise in business analysis and reporting supported informed decision-making for the company.
Her diverse background includes founding and managing an art gallery in the Scottish Borders, fostering relationships with artists, and spearheading marketing efforts to expand its reach.
Being a landlord herself, Kate has experience of letting property in Scotland, whilst also holding directorship of a data consultancy, helping businesses to optimise data related processes to enhance operational efficiency.
With a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and a BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis, Kate combines creativity with analytical skills. Beyond her professional endeavors, Kate is an enthusiast of art, photography and music.
