EPCs, MEES and the Future of Energy Performance – Part 1 (England and Wales)

In reducing environmental impact and meeting energy efficiency standards, Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) are a compulsory requirement in rental properties. Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) were introduced later to raise the energy efficiency standard using the EPC as the foundation.

In our first article looking at the future of energy performance, we examine in detail the requirements under the relevant EPC regulations. We explore when we need an energy performance certificate and what is involved in energy performance assessments. We also look at the penalties for failing to comply with EPC requirements.

Look out for our next article on energy performance in rental properties when we will consider the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard.
